General Communication Inc. Pays $1.5M+ to Settle False Claims Act Allegations

A whistleblower lawsuit against General Communication Inc. alleging  false claims for improperly substantiated, duplicative, or otherwise ineligible subscribers to the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) Low Income Support Program has resulted in a $1,556,075 settlement, DoJ announced today.  The whistleblower who levied the allegations will receive an award of $260,274.  The Low Income Support Program of the Universal Service Fund was created by Congress in the Telecommunications Act of 1996 to provide eligible individuals free or discounted phone or wireless services.
