Birmingham Man Plead Guilty to Filing False Claims for Tax Refunds, Wire Fraud, and Identity Theft

Cardale Bates in a plea deal was sentenced to 57 months in prison, ordered to pay $56,946, and 3 years of supervised release for his involvement in a fraudulant scheme to obtain payment of false tax refunds presented to the IRS, according to the DoJ. Bates retrieved social security numbers and names for the sole purpose of filing such claims. Attorney Melissa K. Atwood prosecuted the case.
